The Road to MOMBO Sacco

The idea for Mombo Sacco was hatched in 2014 when a group of entrepreneurs envisioned a different kind of Sacco. A Sacco that respected and embraced the technological changes in the financial services sector occurring at that time.
We’ve already come a long way. Our continued fintech innovation drives MOMBO Sacco forward and bridges the gap between the customer, their finances, and technology.
As we now tie our own history to the history of fintech and the evolution of mobile banking, our journey is far from over.
Our Covid-19 pandemic survival strategies bore fruits enabling the Sacco experience over 100% growth rate in both its membership, savings book and loan book, with a 2.36% NPL.
We financed our 1st motorbike purchase from Toyota Kenya at 115%. The financing covers the purchase cost, Insurance premium as well as future incidentals. The member’s means of transport changes from trekking to work to travelling on wheels.
Mombo Sacco was recognized and awarded the Most Improved Sacco in the use of Tech Solutions.

We financed our first 14 seater matatu purchase. This is adds to his existing fleet of 3 matatus. MOMBO Sacco is all about endless possibilities even during Covid-19 pandemic.
MOMBO Sacco Board of Directors resolved to award the strength and resilience of its members during these trying times through the Annual Top Savers Awards.
We switched to remote working as Kenya went into lockdown in March 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. To support customers struggling as a result of the pandemic we introduced loan moratoriums of up to 8 months, temporary savings accounts downgrades and gave out more loans to cushion customers.
We supercharged our loans to Ksh 5,000,000 limit.
MOMBO Sacco was recognized and awarded the Best Sacco in Mobile banking and digital finance.
We introduced four new savings accounts – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum to serve the whole community. We further reviewed the minimum share capital from Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 20,000 to align our capital adequacy to the SASRA threshold during the First Annual General Meeting held the Tamarind Tree Hotel, Nairobi Kenya.
MOMBO Sacco was recognized and awarded the Most Preferred Digital Finance Sacco in Kenya.
Members ratified the founding members of the Board of Directors at the First General Meeting held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nairobi Kenya.
We financed our 1st car purchase at 115%. The financing covers the purchase cost, Insurance premium and other incidentals. We are thankful and excited to enable our member in attaining her first car at 29 years of age.
